Faith & Worship

The Revised Common Lectionary (RCL) offers a three-year cycle with four readings for every Sunday in the Church Year.

These readings are:
A Lesson from the Hebrew Scriptures (or Acts during the Season of Easter)
A Psalm
A Lesson from the Epistles or Acts
A Lesson from the Gospels

The following prayers follow a traditional form using the pattern of ACT (Adoration, Confession and Thanksgiving).

There is also an opening prayer which can be used at the beginning of a service.

OPENING PRAYER

Here we are,
your ordinary saints
worshipping their Maker!
Here we are,
your ordinary people,
by the power of your Spirit
experiencing the extraordinary,
your ordinary servants
living the truth of your word,
being your hands and feet in this world.
Here we are,
your ordinary saints
worshipping their Maker!

ADORATION

Blessed are you, our God and our King,
revealing the blessings
of life in your kingdom,
giving us knowledge
of your love and wisdom,
drawing us closer
and into your presence,
opening our lives to
your love and obedience.
Blessed are you, our God and our King,





CONFESSION

Who are the poor
but those who know they have nothing
without you?
Who are the hungry
but those who know their sustenance comes
only from you?
Who are the sorrowful
but those who weep for the many who
don't know you?
Give us your heart
for those who are seeking,
give us your heart
for those who are suffering,
give us your heart
for those in your kingdom
who, though they have nothing
have all that they need.

THANKSGIVING

The blessed in your eyes
are not those who have everything
but those who have nothing.
Not the rich in earning
but the rich in spending
who give their all for you.
Your ordinary saints
being your hands,
feet and words
in their ordinary lives,
doing extraordinary things for you.
The blessed in your eyes
are not those who desire honour,
but those who merely seek to serve.
Thank you for the servants in your kingdom.
